the beginning of the much heralded Crispin Bogusky ads…what do you think, I’m not sure that Apple will be that worried!

Google vs Microsoft - Is this about more than just porn browsing….?

September 4th, 2008

In the blue corner, Microsoft and Aquantive stating that the final click from search is given too much value by advertisers and heralding engagement mapping as proof of the value of online display advertising.

In the red corner, Google and their new Chrome browser, making it easier for users to turn off cookies - a user focussed feature with the interesting side effect of harming the basis for engagement mapping and likely raising PPC prices, core beneficiary, GOOG.

Still, it’s all about the user, right? :)

Elderly woman in Arlanda baggage belt mix up - The Local

August 27th, 2008

A 78-year-old woman who was planning to fly to Germany from Stockholm’s Arlanda airport found herself taking an unexpected trip on Tuesday.

The woman misheard instructions from airport personnel, who directed her to an unmanned baggage conveyor belt after she had checked in.

Rather than placing her bags on the conveyor belt, she instead hopped on the belt herself, at which point she was whisked away to the baggage handling area, writes the Upsala Nya Tidning newspaper.

Dan Germain: the pipe of powerful thinking

August 26th, 2008

Today has been very productive. And I credit most of the good work I have done down to the fact that I received this pipe in the post this morning.

Just popping it in my mouth for a bit of a ponder makes me feel quite smart and scholarly. Then I remove it, tap the bowl thoughtfully on the palm of my hand and feel even more intelligent.

Happy Monday

August 25th, 2008

Today was a Happy Monday for sure, the little one was full of smiles this morning while we watched his favourite toons and ironing shirts the night before can only be good for the soul!

Sun shining on the ride to work, managed to hit green lights all the way and found a place to park my bike without any problems at all.

Great atmosphere in the Spotify office all day, everyone charged up and full of motivation, and some super new people joining the team.

Phone calls got taken, emails got answered and had a meeting with some really inspiring folks too, learned a bunch of new and fun stuff.

Home in time to catch the bairn before he went to sleep, then got news from a close friend that he’s landed a really cool job and starts on Monday (good that he took 4 weeks holiday first eh? :))

How was your Monday? I wish all weeks could start on such a roll!!

Jonathan

PS Would have been better if Rasmus was in the office, particularly if he left chocolates by the coffee machine, get well soon buddy!

PPS Just remembered it’s a bank holiday in the UK, sure all my mates over there didn’t have too shabby a time either :)

Avenue A Deal Could Give WPP, Microsoft What They Really Want - Advertising Age - Digital

August 25th, 2008

Would seem to make quite a lot of sense…

NEW YORK (AdAge.com) — Almost six months after the companies started talking, WPP and Microsoft have reopened talks that could have the software company unloading Avenue A/Razorfish. But the question is whether Microsoft could ever get anyone to buy the digital ad agency for the price at which it needs to sell it.

What Microsoft paid for the agency and what any holding company would shell out are vastly different figures — although WPP holds an edge over other holding companies because it has assets Microsoft might be interested in, namely the ad-serving technology bit of 24/7 Real Media.
